We can know the location of the person who has sent us mail using G mail service.
suppose, Dev has sent email message to Radika, Then the senders IP address will be included in the header of the outgoing email message. The receiver (Radika) can check with simple Geo lookup against the IP address so that we can find exact location of the sender.
Services like Yahoo!mail and Hotmail contains IP address in the header of messages which is sent.
If Dev is sending mail to these yahoo or hotmail by using Gmail, then the IP address of the sender won't be in the message header.
In such situations, IP address may be hiden as it is a sensitive information.
If Dev's IP address won't be shown in the message header of the mail sent by him using Gmail. Then how Radika can make out the geographic location of Dev.
There are two ways:
1. IP address may be in Gmail:
When the sender is using Gmail service to send email then Gmail does not contain IP address of the sender. If you are using desktop client like Microsoft outlook or mobile to send email then the IP address will be in the Gmail.
To see the IP address, first open the email sent to you through gmail , then click on show original option and then search for the line " Received : from" - This line may contain IP address of the sender which can location.
2. How to find sender's Time Zone:
We can make out the sender's location from time zone of their computer. When the IP address is not available. Enable sender Time Zone feature in Gmail labs page.
Open any mail in Gmail then click at the down arrow at show details option. It will display the current time of the sender time Zone.
Using time zone map we can make out the current time and which countries it is. As IP address is not available. So this is the approximate we get.
